Australian Stockman's Hall of Fame
Celebrating the outback's spirit
schedule 1 min read / Updated Jun 2026
Opened by Queen Elizabeth II in 1988, this striking architectural landmark on the Landsborough Highway honours the stockmen, women, and Indigenous Australians who shaped the outback. Five themed galleries use artefacts, oral histories, and hands-on displays to bring the pioneering story of Australia's pastoral heartland vividly to life.
The building itself is a sight worth stopping for, its curved corrugated-iron silhouette designed to echo the forms of the outback landscape. Inside, the galleries move through themes of land, people, and industry, featuring tools of the droving trade, saddles, photographs, and personal stories from the men and women who mustered cattle and sheep across vast and unforgiving country.
Rotating exhibitions keep the content fresh for repeat visitors, and the stockyard and outdoor heritage precinct give children space to explore at their own pace. The Hall regularly hosts events tied to Queensland's pastoral calendar, and its cafe and well-stocked outback bookshop are worth lingering in before hitting the highway.
