Bathurst Goldfields
Pan for gold in colonial surrounds
schedule 1 min read / Updated Jun 2026
Set on 11 hectares of bushland on the slopes of Mount Panorama, Bathurst Goldfields is a living history site built around an 1800s colonial re-enactment village. Public tours run during school holidays, giving visitors the chance to explore a blacksmith's shop, a steam shed and authentic colonial buildings before trying their hand at real gold panning in the on-site panning ponds.
The site tells the story of the Central West's gold rush era through guided experiences that bring the period to life. Blacksmiths demonstrate traditional ironwork, and guides in period costume explain the daily realities of colonial life in the Bathurst region during the mid-to-late nineteenth century. Any gold found during panning is yours to keep.
Public tours typically run during NSW school holiday periods, excluding the Bathurst 1000 race week in October. Outside of school holidays, the site operates primarily as a school camp and event venue, so checking the website before visiting is recommended. The grounds also include accommodation, conference facilities and function spaces.
The Conrod Straight address places Bathurst Goldfields in one of the most famous stretches of the Mount Panorama circuit, meaning guests combine gold rush history with motorsport atmosphere in a single outing.
