Hahndorf Inn
South Australia's taste of Bavaria
schedule 1 min read / Updated Jun 2026
The Hahndorf Inn is an award-winning Bavarian restaurant and bierhall that has been welcoming visitors to Hahndorf since 1863, making it one of the oldest continuously operating licensed premises in South Australia. The main dining room serves hearty German classics including schnitzel, bratwurst, sauerkraut, and black bread, while the adjoining bierhall pours locally crafted lagers, ales, and weizens on tap. Families, groups, and couples are all welcome.
The Inn's heritage stone building anchors the eastern end of Hahndorf's main strip and has been a social centre for the village since the mid-nineteenth century. The interior mixes original stone walls and timber beams with cheerful Bavarian decor, including steins, lederhosen prints, and folk art, giving the place an atmosphere that manages to feel both authentic and relaxed. Alfresco dining in the vine-covered courtyard laneway is popular in the warmer months.
The Hahndorf Brewing Bierhall is a more recent addition, occupying the beautifully restored Borchers Blacksmith Barn that adjoins the main building. The brewery produces a rotating range of German-style and seasonal beers in small batches, and the bar offers accompanied cheese and charcuterie boards alongside the taps. Live entertainment runs on selected weekend evenings. The kitchen is open from 10:30am until 8pm daily, with the bar remaining open later.
