Kalbarri Skywalk
Soaring above the gorge
schedule 1 min read / Updated Jun 2026
Perched 100 metres above the ancient Murchison River gorge, the Kalbarri Skywalk consists of two steel and glass platforms that jut out over the canyon rim, offering unobstructed views across the red and white banded sandstone landscape of Kalbarri National Park. The 700-metre return walk from the carpark is largely sealed and accessible, making this one of the most inclusive ways to experience the dramatic gorge country inland from Kalbarri.
Opened in 2020, the Skywalk was designed to complement rather than overpower the gorge environment. The two curved platforms extend beyond the cliff edge and give a genuine sensation of floating above the valley floor carved by the Murchison River over hundreds of millions of years. Interpretive signage along the path explains the ancient geology and introduces the significance of the land to the Nanda people, the Traditional Owners of the region.
The surrounding sandstone was deposited on tidal flats roughly 400 million years ago and now forms the vivid red and cream banding that defines the gorge walls. Early morning light intensifies the colours and is the most popular time for photographers. A valid Kalbarri National Park pass is required and can be purchased at the entry gate or from the Kalbarri Visitor Centre in town.
