Kamarun Lookout sits on the approach road to O'Reilly's in the Green Mountains section of Lamington National Park, roughly 10 kilometres before the retreat. Named in honour of conservationist Romeo Lahey, it delivers sweeping panoramas across craggy ridgelines, patchwork farming valleys, and forested peaks. The lookout is free, open around the clock, and accessible for all fitness levels.
The short drive along Kamarun Lookout Road from Lamington National Park Road brings visitors to a cleared grassy viewing area with room to park and pause. The outlook spans east across the Scenic Rim foothills and west into the deep ravines below the McPherson Range escarpment. Sunrise and late afternoon light produce dramatic photography conditions.
There are no toilet facilities at the lookout itself, the nearest are 10 kilometres away at the Green Mountains day-use area near O'Reilly's. Visitors often combine this stop with the full drive to O'Reilly's or with a picnic at one of the roadside rest areas along the way.
The surrounding country belongs to the Yugambeh people, whose connection to these mountains stretches back thousands of years. The lookout road is sealed and suitable for conventional vehicles, though the final approach to O'Reilly's beyond it is steep and winding.
