Little Salmon Bay Snorkel Trail

The trail loops around the bay for approximately 700 metres, with interpretive plaques anchored to the seabed beneath each buoy. These plaques identify and explain the marine life and coral species surrounding them, turning a swim into an educational experience. Look for scalyfins, wrasse, bream and the occasional western rock lobster hiding among the seagrass.

The bay sits within the Parker Point Marine Sanctuary, one of several dedicated sanctuary zones around Rottnest Island where fishing and collection of any plant or animal material is strictly prohibited. This protection has allowed coral and fish populations to recover and flourish over recent decades.

Little Salmon Bay is reached by a 15-minute bike ride south from the main settlement or via the Island Explorer bus. Snorkel gear can be hired at Thomson Bay. The bay faces south and is most sheltered from afternoon sea breezes, making mornings the calmest time to visit.
