Long Beach
Drive on twelve kilometres of white sand
schedule 1 min read / Updated Jun 2026
Long Beach is Robe's signature stretch of coastline, a sweeping 12-kilometre arc of white sand lapped by aquamarine water on the eastern shore of Guichen Bay. It is one of the few beaches in South Australia where vehicles are permitted to drive directly onto the sand, making it especially popular for camping, fishing, and family outings. The beach faces into calmer bay waters, offering safer swimming conditions than the exposed Southern Ocean beaches nearby.
Sheltered within Guichen Bay, Long Beach offers a range of surf conditions along its length. The area near the First and Second Ramps is well suited to families and beginner swimmers, with gentle rolling waves, while the Third Ramp and beyond attracts surfers seeking larger swells. Vehicle access to the beach is managed through designated ramp entry points, and the beach is patrolled during peak summer periods. Facilities at the beach access points include carparks, picnic areas, public toilets, and lawned garden areas.
The beach is also a productive fishing location, with whiting, garfish, and salmon all caught regularly along its length. At dawn and dusk the bay's calm waters reflect spectacular colours, making it a popular location for photographers. Long Beach is directly accessible from the town centre of Robe via The Esplanade, and is free of charge at all times. It forms part of the broader coastal environment that makes Robe one of the most visited towns on the Limestone Coast.
