Merimbula, 25 kilometres north of Eden, offers two linked waterside experiences that together make a half-day well spent. The Merimbula Aquarium on Lake Street showcases tanks of local marine life and a large oceanarium. Just minutes away, the Lake Boardwalk winds around the northern shore of Merimbula Lake past mangroves, oyster leases, and the habitat of azure kingfishers and egrets.

The aquarium keeps its focus deliberately local, with the tanks displaying species found in the waters just outside: sharks, octopus, shrimp, and a variety of reef fish. A touch pool is a highlight for younger visitors, and fish feeding sessions run on selected days.

The boardwalk begins near the Market Street bridge and follows the lake's northern edge on a flat, wheelchair-accessible surface of timber and compacted gravel. The oyster nurseries along the route are working farms producing Sydney Rock Oysters, and a resident lake seal is often spotted patrolling the leases. Sunset views from the jetties along the walk are a particular draw for photographers.

Both attractions are free or low-cost and suitable for all ages. The boardwalk is accessible at all times and is dog-friendly on lead.
