Mount Panorama Circuit
Drive a legend on public roads
schedule 1 min read / Updated Jun 2026
Mount Panorama, known to the Wiradjuri people as Wahluu, is one of the most celebrated motor racing circuits in the world and one of the few where the public can drive the full 6.2-kilometre track for free on non-event days. With sweeping mountain views, dramatic elevation changes and 23 iconic turns, the circuit draws motorsport fans and curious visitors alike throughout the year.
The circuit winds up and over a hill on the southern edge of Bathurst, rising more than 170 metres from Pit Straight to the top of the mountain before plummeting back down through the Chase and onto Conrod Straight. On non-race days it operates as a public road under normal NSW road rules, with a 60 km/h speed limit strictly enforced by local police.
The Bathurst 1000 touring car race, held each October, has been run here since 1963 and is regarded as one of the great endurance races in world motorsport. The circuit also hosts the Bathurst 12 Hour in February. Outside of these events, the road is open around the clock.
Panoramic lookouts near the top of the mountain offer views across the city and surrounding plains that reward walkers and photographers. Information boards along the circuit detail the history of famous races and drivers.
