Perched on the crest of the Great Dividing Range, this heritage-listed 65-hectare parkland offers sweeping 180-degree panoramas eastward across the Lockyer Valley. A constructed waterfall, shaded picnic areas, multiple playgrounds, and a network of walking trails make it Toowoomba's most beloved outdoor escape, just minutes from the city centre.
Gazetted as a reserve in 1886 at the suggestion of Toowoomba's first mayor, Picnic Point has been welcoming picnickers, bushwalkers, and sightseers for well over a century. The lookout platforms give visitors an almost uninterrupted view across the range escarpment, and on clear days the patchwork of farmland below stretches to the horizon.
Walking tracks range from a short stroll to a 2.1-kilometre loop through native bush, making the parkland suitable for all fitness levels. The reserve is listed on the Queensland Heritage Register for its historical, aesthetic, and cultural significance to the Toowoomba community.
A cafe and restaurant sit right on the escarpment edge, so visitors can combine a scenic walk with coffee or a meal. Free electric barbecues, picnic shelters, and accessible toilet facilities are spread throughout the grounds.
