Point Cook Coastal Park protects a stretch of Port Phillip Bay coastline 20 kilometres south-west of Melbourne, encompassing internationally significant wetlands, a marine sanctuary, a historic bluestone homestead and walking trails across native grasslands. Entry is free and the park is managed by Parks Victoria.
The adjoining Cheetham Wetlands draw thousands of migratory shorebirds between September and April, making the park one of metropolitan Melbourne's best birdwatching destinations. Species recorded here include orange-bellied parrots, painted snipes and sand plovers, best observed at low tide from the wetland boardwalks and viewing areas.
A 1.5-kilometre accessible gravel track leads to The Tower, a lookout that provides 360-degree views across the bay and the surrounding coastal grasslands. The beach picnic area is equipped with free gas barbecues, a children's playground and shaded picnic tables, making it a practical destination for families. The Bay Trail, an off-road cycling and walking path, connects the park to Williamstown further around the bay.
Gate hours vary by season, with the park opening daily in the morning and closing times earlier in autumn and winter months. Dogs are not permitted anywhere in the park.
