The Royal Australian Mint in Deakin is the only mint in Australia authorised to produce the nation's circulating coins, and it welcomes visitors free of charge to see the entire process up close. Opened in 1965, the facility has produced billions of coins and is a multi-award-winning cultural attraction as well as a fully operational Commonwealth Heritage Site.

Through large glass panels on the factory floor, visitors watch blanking presses, annealing furnaces, and coining presses striking legal tender in real time. The museum space is anchored by a dramatic column of gold dollar coins and a large mural made from thousands of coins that traces the story of Australia's decimal currency changeover in 1966.

Interactive stations let visitors design their own coin and mint a genuine legal tender souvenir to take home, a highlight for kids and coin enthusiasts alike. Free on-site parking with EV charging, a cafe, and accessible facilities make this a comfortable half-day stop just a few kilometres from the city centre.
