Sea World
Oceans of adventure await
schedule 1 min read / Updated Jun 2026
Sea World is Australia's premier marine theme park, sitting on The Spit at Main Beach on the Gold Coast. Home to polar bears, sharks, dolphins, rays, penguins and sea lions, the park blends wildlife encounters with white-knuckle rides across precincts such as New Atlantis, Polar Bear Coast and Penguin Pavilion. The Leviathan wooden roller coaster and live animal presentations give visitors of every age something to remember.
Sea World opened in 1971 and has grown into one of the largest marine parks in the Southern Hemisphere. The New Atlantis precinct houses three world-class rides, while Dolphin Cove, the largest sandy-bottom lagoon ever built for dolphins, serves as both an educational centre and a stage for daily presentations. Nickelodeon Land keeps younger visitors entertained with beloved characters.
Wildlife encounters are a highlight, with behind-the-scenes experiences offering close contact with polar bears, sharks and sea turtles. The Leviathan roller coaster is among the tallest and longest wooden coasters in Australia, while younger thrill-seekers have a dedicated range of gentler rides. Daily shows include animal presentations and a stunt show.
The park sits adjacent to Sea World Resort, making it easy to combine a stay with multiple days of exploration. Tickets are cheapest when booked online in advance, and arriving at opening time minimises wait times on popular attractions.
