Terrigal Beach and The Skillion
Surf, cliffs and panoramas
schedule 1 min read / Updated Jun 2026
Terrigal is the Central Coast's most celebrated beach town, combining a long arc of patrolled surf beach with the dramatic Skillion headland, a steep sandstone formation that rises sharply above the Pacific Ocean. The short coastal path to the summit delivers some of the most photographed views on the entire New South Wales coast.
The main beach stretches south from Terrigal Haven, a sheltered harbour used by fishing charters, scuba divers and kayakers. A small ocean rock pool sits tucked into the cliffs at the southern end, popular with families looking for calmer water alongside the surf. The beachfront strip is lined with cafes, restaurants and boutique shops, making it easy to stretch a beach day into a full outing.
The Skillion walk begins at the northern car park near the Haven and climbs roughly one kilometre to the clifftop lookout in about 15 minutes. The summit gives a sweeping 180-degree view across the ocean and back over the town, and it is a favourite spot for sunrise visits and photographers chasing golden-hour light. Entry to the beach and headland walk is free, and several large free car parks operate nearby.
