The Big Pineapple
Sunshine Coast's iconic landmark
schedule 1 min read / Updated Jun 2026
Perched along the Nambour Connection Road at Woombye, the Big Pineapple is the Sunshine Coast's most recognisable landmark, a 16-metre concrete pineapple listed on the Queensland Heritage Register. Today the precinct has evolved far beyond its Big Things roots into a lively family destination with a zoo, heritage train, distillery and adventure ropes course all on one site.
Wildlife HQ Zoo, located within the grounds, houses more than 80 native and exotic species including meerkats, red pandas, and a range of Australian wildlife in naturalistic habitats. The heritage Pineapple Train departs daily, winding through the surrounding macadamia and tropical fruit plantation. Visitors can also climb inside the famous pineapple itself for panoramic hinterland views.
Sunshine and Sons Distillery runs tastings and cocktail sessions on site, and the TreeTop Challenge ropes course adds an adrenaline option for older kids and adults. Site entry is free, with individual experiences charged separately. The precinct opens daily from 8:30am to 4:00pm.
