The Convent Gallery
Art and history on the hill
schedule 1 min read / Updated Jun 2026
Perched high on a hilltop at the edge of Daylesford, The Convent Gallery occupies a sprawling 19th-century convent complex that was home to nuns of the Presentation Order for nearly a century. Today the beautifully restored buildings and terraced gardens house contemporary galleries, a gift shop, a cafe, and a small museum, offering one of the most atmospheric cultural experiences in regional Victoria.
Built in 1876, the complex includes the main convent building, a chapel, a lookout tower, and extensive gardens arranged across several terraced levels. The galleries display work by Australian and international artists across changing exhibitions, and the admission covers three consecutive days of access, generous enough to return for a slow second look.
The garden walks and hilltop views over Lake Daylesford and the surrounding volcanic landscape make it as much an outdoor experience as an indoor one. The cafe is a popular spot for a relaxed lunch or morning tea among roses and heritage plantings.
Admission is affordable for families, and the mix of history, art, gardens, and architecture makes it a highlight for culture-seekers visiting the Daylesford area.
