The Hazards are a compact range of granite peaks forming the dramatic spine of the Freycinet Peninsula, their distinctive rose-pink colour coming from orthoclase feldspar in the ancient Devonian rock. Rising steeply from the shores of Great Oyster Bay on the west and Wineglass Bay on the east, these mountains define the visual character of Freycinet National Park and reward walkers with extraordinary elevated views.

The peaks of Dove, Amos, Mayson, Baudin and Parsons frame nearly every view from Coles Bay and form the backdrop to Wineglass Bay beach. The range is said to be named after a 19th-century whaler who operated in these waters. The saddle between Mounts Amos and Mayson is crossed by the Wineglass Bay Lookout Track, giving most visitors their closest encounter with the peaks.

For those wanting a more demanding experience, the Mount Amos summit track is a 3.6 km return climb with steep scrambles on bare granite slabs requiring care on wet days. The 11 km Wineglass Bay and Hazards Beach circuit (4 to 5 hours) traverses both the ocean and bay sides of the range and is one of Tasmania's Great Short Walks.

Access to all walking tracks begins from the Walking Tracks Car Park on Freycinet Drive. A national park pass is required. Sturdy footwear with good grip is essential on the granite surfaces.
