Victoria State Rose Garden

The Victoria State Rose Garden at Werribee Park is the largest formal rose garden in the southern hemisphere, covering five hectares and displaying more than 5,000 roses in a design inspired by the Tudor rose. Admission is free, and the garden has received the International Garden of Excellence award from the World Federation of Rose Societies.
Roses are arranged in concentric beds radiating from a central fountain, with varieties spanning heritage roses, modern hybrids and climbing specimens trained over arches and pergolas. The best time to visit is November through April when the bulk of the collection is in full flower and colour and fragrance peak together. A Heritage Border planted with old-fashioned roses marks the boundary between the rose garden and the mansion's formal gardens next door.
Beyond roses, the garden is a popular spot for picnics, family outings and birdwatching among the planted beds and open lawns. The site is accessible by car in about 30 minutes from Melbourne's CBD, or by train to Werribee Station followed by a bus.
Donations at the garden entrance help fund ongoing maintenance and improvements. The garden shares the main Gate 2 car park with the mansion and is easy to visit alongside the formal gardens without additional cost.
