Walu Wugirriga, meaning to look about in the Eastern Kuku Yalanji language, is a signposted lookout on Cape Tribulation Road about 7.5 kilometres north of the Daintree ferry crossing. A short walk from the car park leads to an elevated platform with sweeping views across the Daintree River estuary, Snapper Island, and on clear days north to Cape Tribulation. It is a free stop with one of the most photographed vistas in Far North Queensland.
The lookout sits at the crest of the Alexandra Range, which forms the first significant ridge encountered after crossing the Daintree River on the cable ferry. The road climbs steeply through dense rainforest to reach the viewing platform, and the contrast between the dark rainforest canopy and the glittering coastal waters below is dramatic at any time of day.
Morning light is particularly good for photography, with the sun rising behind the range and illuminating the mangrove flats and river mouth. The area holds significant cultural importance to the Eastern Kuku Yalanji people as a place of spiritual significance and connection to country.
The car park is accessible and there are no facilities beyond a signboard. The site is managed by Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service as part of Daintree National Park.
