Spread across 225 hectares on the Werribee River, Werribee Open Range Zoo puts visitors inside a convincing slice of the African savannah without leaving Victoria. A complimentary safari bus winds through open grasslands where giraffes, rhinos, hippos and cheetahs roam at close range, and the zoo is open every day of the year.

The zoo is designed around open-range principles, meaning most animals are not confined to small enclosures but share large naturalistic habitats. The free safari bus is the centrepiece of a visit, taking guests slowly through the savannah so they can observe the herd animals at their own pace. Animal talks and keeper sessions run throughout the day across various areas of the park.

Beyond the bus tour, the zoo offers add-on experiences such as the Hippo Encounter and walking tours for visitors who want a closer look. There are also family play areas, cafes and picnic grounds spread across the site.

Prices use demand-based ticketing, so purchasing online in advance is strongly recommended. Children under four enter free all year round, and children aged four to fifteen enter free on weekends and Victorian school and public holidays.
