Woodford Folk Festival
Six days of music, art and ideas in the Queensland hinterland over New Year.
A six-day folk, world music and ideas festival held in the Woodfordia site in the Queensland hinterland north of Brisbane between 27 December and 1 January each year.
Woodford Folk Festival has run annually since 1986 and is held at Woodfordia, a purpose-built festival site in the Sunshine Coast hinterland about 90 minutes north of Brisbane. It runs for six days from 27 December to 1 January and attracts crowds of around 25,000 people per day across more than 400 artists and 2,000 performances.
The programme includes folk, world music, contemporary Australian music, dance, circus, spoken word, philosophy, climate and indigenous discussions, and a full children's festival. It has an unusually committed community of repeat attendees, many of whom have been going every year for decades.
The festival has a significant camping component and the majority of visitors stay on-site in a temporary city of tents. Tickets are released well in advance and the New Year's Eve edition regularly sells out. The on-site fire parade on the final night is a festival tradition.
