Battery Hill Gold Mining and Heritage Centre

Three permanent museum exhibitions make up the indoor experience. 'Freedom, Fortitude and Flies' chronicles the lives of the pioneers who flooded to Tennant Creek in the 1930s. 'The Borella ANZAC Story' honours Tennant Creek's most celebrated son, Albert Borella, a Victoria Cross recipient of the First World War. The McLaughlin Minerals Collection showcases a dazzling array of mineral specimens sourced from around the world, offering an unexpected window into global geology.

The signature experience is the underground mine tour, which takes small groups through recreated tunnels to explore mining techniques from the 1930s through to the modern era. The tour is suitable for children aged seven and over; children under seven cannot participate. The centre sits on a ridge with panoramic views over the surrounding outback, and the outdoor heritage equipment and vintage vehicle displays add further depth to the story of Tennant Creek's mining heritage.

The centre also operates as the Tennant Creek Visitor Information Centre, making it the natural first stop for anyone arriving in the region. Staff can assist with bookings for nearby attractions and regional itinerary planning. The key to access the Tennant Creek Telegraph Station Historical Reserve is also held here.
