Top Didj Cultural Experience and Art Gallery
Living Jawoyn and Dalabon culture
schedule 1 min read / Updated Jun 2026
Top Didj offers an immersive window into Aboriginal culture at a gallery and living cultural centre set seven kilometres from Katherine on Gorge Road. Led by Dalabon man and artist Manuel Pamkal, the hands-on cultural experience takes visitors through traditional practices including fire lighting, spear throwing with a woomera, rarrk painting with a reed brush, and a guided walk through a bush tucker and medicine garden. The gallery showcases works from hundreds of artists across the Top End, Arnhem Land, and central Australia.
The cultural experience runs for around two and a half hours in morning and afternoon sessions, combining storytelling, demonstrations, and participation in activities that have been practised across the Top End for thousands of years. Manuel shares personal stories of growing up on Country, weaving together Dalabon and Jawoyn knowledge in a way that is engaging for visitors of all ages.
The gallery holds national accreditation and features an extensive collection of authentic dot paintings, bark art, didgeridoos, and woven artefacts available for purchase. A shaded BBQ and lunch area is available for visitors. The gallery is wheelchair accessible, and staff can arrange support for visitors with specific accessibility needs.
Top Didj operates Tuesday to Sunday from May to October, with morning and afternoon sessions. Outside the dry season, opening hours are by arrangement. The gallery entry is free, with a separate fee applying for the guided cultural experience. Bookings are essential.
