schedule 1 min read / Updated Jun 2026
Kings Creek Station is a working cattle and camel station set in the spinifex plains 36 km from Kings Canyon, offering an authentic outback experience with guided buggy tours across its private bush tracks and the award-winning Karrke Aboriginal Cultural Experience run by Luritja and Pertame peoples. The station is open year-round and also serves as a base for accommodation, camping, and a cafe famous for its camel burgers.
The Buggy Station Tour takes small groups across the private landscape of the station with a local guide, covering outback station life and the vast desert scenery of the George Gill Range. Sunset tours run two hours before dusk. Participants need a current Australian driver's licence and closed-toe footwear.
The Karrke Aboriginal Cultural Experience is a one-hour guided tour led by Traditional Owners sharing knowledge of bush tucker, bush medicines, grinding stones, dot paintings, and wooden artefacts of the Luritja and Pertame peoples. Tours run Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from March to October at 10:30 am and 2:00 pm, and can be booked online through the Karrke tour reservation system.
The station cafe serves meals and drinks daily, including the famous Kings Creek camel burger, a Red Centre institution. Petrol, Mereenie Loop Road permits, and camping facilities with powered and unpowered sites, a swimming pool, and shower and laundry facilities are also available on site.
